Volunteers give their time, energy, and expertise to administer the program and meet the academic, social, and financial needs of the scholars. ABC Board members—with the help of other volunteers—organize the events that raise the revenues to operate the program. They work with the resident directors and tutors, serve as academic advisors, establish policies and procedures, and keep in close communication with the scholars.
There are many ways to participate, whether you want to serve as a host family for a scholar, volunteer on an ongoing basis, or only have a few hours to give here and there.
Host Families
Host Families provide an important resource for the ABC scholars and are a family link to connect with our local community. Each host family is assigned to an ABC scholar for the scholar’s 4 years in Winchester. Every Sunday and one full weekend each month, the host family welcomes their scholar into their family’s life and home. They provide the ABC students with individual attention and support in a family setting, as well as the opportunity for new experiences and opportunities.
Donate
Your donation allows us to provide our young scholars with a strong learning environment. Although A Better Chance of Winchester is an affiliate of the national A Better Chance program, we are a financially independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our funding comes from individual donations, fundraising events, local organizations, corporations, and foundations to cover annual operating expenses. Your support can help Winchester A Better Chance continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities to scholars whose academic potential exceeds their opportunity and we are grateful each year to the Winchester community for its generous support!
