Volunteers give their time, energy and expertise to administer the program and meet the academic, social, and financial needs of the scholars. ABC board members — with the help of other volunteers — organize the events that raise the revenues to operate the program. They work with the resident directors and tutors, serve as academic advisors, establish policies and procedures, and keep in close communication with the scholars.

There are many ways to participate whether you want to serve as a host family for a scholar, volunteer on an ongoing basis or only have a few hours to give here and there.

Become a Host Family for a Scholar

Host Families are an important link between the ABC scholars and our local community. Each host family is assigned to an ABC scholar for the scholar’s 4 years in Winchester. Every Sunday and one full weekend each month, the host family welcomes their scholar into their family’s life and home. They provide the ABC students with individual attention and support in a family setting, as well as the opportunity for new experiences and opportunities. These family ties not only provide a resource to the scholars while they are away from their homes, but often continue long after scholars graduate on from Winchester’s program..
