A Better Chance of Winchester (ABC) is one of 21 community school programs (CSP) of A Better Chance Inc. Our program provides access to scholars to attend Winchester High School, while living in a dedicated and supervised ABC home with the benefits of the supportive Winchester community.

Our program is fully funded by generous donations from our supportive community, allowing scholars to attend without a financial burden.

The scholars who participate in Winchester ABC live in the ABC house with resident directors and a resident academic coordinator; they develop a brotherhood by living and working together. The resident academic coordinator, supported as needed by tutors in specific academic areas, supervises the weekday study period. The scholars share housekeeping responsibilities. Because the scholars share living quarters in a dormitory-like setting, the program enrolls only young men.

Scholars typically start Winchester High School as freshmen, complete their 4 years of high school and move on to pursue further education at top universities and colleges. During their time in Winchester, they must maintain a certain academic standing and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, sports, etc.

Beyond the educational and dormitory-style privileges that scholars have access to, past scholars have also taken advantage of internships and summer programming opportunities.

A Better Chance identifies, recruits, and refers qualified highly-motivated students to outstanding secondary schools, both public and private, which provide scholarships to these students so that they may excel in college and eventually go on to assume positions of leadership and responsibility.

A Better Chance of Winchester admits students who it believes are most likely to benefit from the educational, cultural and social opportunities offered by its unique program.

The Winchester community gains a tremendous benefit by having these young men in our lives and we are extremely fortunate to have the community's generous support of our goal, to change young lives and ensure that these talented young scholars build leadership skills along their educational journey.
